The long-awaited Summer 2008 edition of the McGee Magazine is available here! (PDF format)
1) Note the new Spring 2008 Trumpet and read up on several mission works and missionaries in which God is working!
2) Announcing the Russian Orphan Lighthouse Project: a unique opportunity to impact a child’s life for Christ and the future, with a cross-cultural experience for your family!
The Lighthouse Project is seeking families willing to host a Russian orphan in their home from approximately July 1-10, 2008. During this time, the children will participate in a Russian-language Vacation Bible School, receive a Russian Bible, enjoy family activities and attention not available in an orphanage, and hopefully meet a family wanting to adopt them. It is not required that host families be interested in adoption. Available children are ages 7-14; there are single boys and girls available. The cost to host a single child is $1000, which covers part of the cost of visa, passport, airfare, and train travel from the orphanage to Moscow.
If you have any questions about this opportunity, please call Becky De Nooy at (616) 245-3216 or visit www.lhproject.com .
Just two news items today, both concerning (mainly) Rev. Pennings:
1) Rev. Pennings spoke at the Spring Missions Rally at Trinity URC, Thursday, May 15. He informed us of his mission work, but also exhorted us from 2 Timothy 2, reminding us that our task as church leaders and as Christians in general is to make disciples--"commit [the things you have heard] to faithful men who will be able to teach others also."
A short presentation was also given to inform of the progress made by the mission teams sent to Costa Rica earlier this year.
2) Rev. Pennings posts an update for your reading pleasure .
God's peace.
We would like to have representation from more of the URC churches who support the work in India. The joint venture committee for the Poelmans in India meets once a month and helps with communication and finances. For more information on serving the needs of the Poelmans and their work in India, please contact Bruce Sterk, Chairman of the Poelman JVC, at (616) 457-6942 or bksterk@hotmail.com.
Rev. Langendoen in Honduras has a new letter here . Bonus: Is evangelism a task meant only for missionaries, or are all believers responsible to share the gospel?
Rev. Green writes the following article for those of us who aren't called to foreign mission work--at least not now--and answers the question, "How can I help?"
