HCM Prayer Supporters:
I want to let the HCM supporting community know about some medical concerns that will limit my travel for a while. I’ve summarized the communication for a ‘bulletin update’ and then I have followed it up with a longer note.
"Rev. Pennings received a medical report this week which will affect his travel schedule for an undetermined period of time. His diabetes is becoming a further concern and he has been experiencing some stomach issues for which the doctor has recommended that he not travel until these concerns are properly addressed. Please pray that these medical concerns will be resolved soon."
I had a doctor’s appointment earlier today. As most of you know, I have had diabetes (type 2) for about 7 years now. The doctor has been concerned about the sugar levels over the last 6 months. I have also had some stomach issues that I have been seeing a specialist about. Today the doctor recommended that I not travel until further notice because my travel diet is a concern for my sugar levels and also for my stomach issues. He recommends that I not travel until they have had an opportunity to do more tests regarding the stomach problems over the next several months and until I have been able to regulate more consistently my blood sugar levels.
I don’t anticipate that my “on hold” travel schedule will affect the on-going work of MINTS in Central America. Already I have been making arrangements for several of my ‘advanced’ students and two national professors to take on some of the teaching responsibilities. I am way behind on many academic projects at this point. This will give me an opportunity to catch up. Additionally I am teaching at two Centers in the Toronto area. I continue to receive student assignments for review from many of the 475 students in Central America. I am also overseeing the Doctoral program and course writing projects of six students in Central America. This may also give me an opportunity to work on my PhD projects with more consistency. Something tells me that my “on hold” travel schedule won’t create much ‘down time’.
Please pray that these medical concerns will be resolved soon.
Rev. Eric Pennings
