A Ministry of Covenant Reformed Church of Toronto in Partnership with Faith United Reformed Church of West Olive, Michigan
Trip Report of January 8-20, 2015
First of all I want to wish each of my ministry supporters the Lord's blessings for the New Year. As God has been faithful in 2014, we may be sure that He will bless the ministry of Hispanic Christian Ministry during the year that lies before us. This is evident already in the opening weeks of the new year. I just returned from a ministry trip in which I spent five days in Miami and eight days in El Salvador.
Miami - January 8-12
Ii reported last year that MINTS has been blessed with substantial growth over the last several years. We currently have 13,000 students studying abroad in about 70 countries around the world. This has provided a need for us to review our administrative structure to be more efficient in the management of student data. As a part of this re-structuring, I have been asked to serve as the International Academic Dean as of March. In this new role I will be responsible for the academic oversight of the various MINTS degree programs and student academic files. During my five days in Miami on this trip, I received an orientation to the responsibilities of the International Academic Dean. Please be in prayer with me as Rev. Neal Hegeman trains me for the new position over the next six weeks. During this time I will be turning over my responsibilities as Coordinator for MINTS-Central America to José Jesús Ramírez. He in turn is turning over his responsibilities as the director of the MINTS Seminary in El Salvador to Marvin Argumedo. He in turn is training church leaders and future MINTS professors. I am thankful for how God is blessing the ministry of MINTS in the "Chain of Discipleship" based on the Great Commission and on Apostle Paul's instructions to Timothy in 2 Timothy 2:2.
MINTS-CA Convention 2015a - January 13-20
The highlight of my ministry trip was a further development of the "Chain of Discipleship" through the training of coordinators of the northern region of Central America. In January 2012 we had our first convention of leadership training in Nicaragua. For our second convention, we decided to divide the region into the North and South. MINTS-CA Convention 2015a took place from January 15-18 in El Salvador with participation from MINTS leaders in Belize, Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras. MINTS-CA Convention 2015b will take place in Nicaragua April 23-26 with participation from MINTS leaders in Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama.
At our convention last week we met with thirty delegates, five members of the MINTS-CA regional board, and five convention organizers (logistics coordinators and cooks who are also MINTS students). Each delegate funded their own travel costs with funds from their local churches or local Study Centers. During the conference we were greatly encouraged by a Skype conference provided by Dr. Neal Hegeman who presented an overview of his latest 200 page publication: Global Theological Education: The MINTS Mission Plan. There was an opportunity for sharing ministry reports from the delegates and providing encouragement and suggestions. Three national leaders and I also presented seven conferences which will be prepared as a MINTS course for the training of national leaders. The morning devotions and evening worship time were led by the delegates. The focus of the convention was on providing practical training in the role of the local national coordinators and national professors of MINTS including themes like: Structuring a Conference Presentation, Preparing a Conference using PowerPoint, Teaching a Course Written by Others, Suggestions for Travelling Professors, Preparing a Ministry Report, Training of Facilitators, and Practical Advice for MINTS Leaders. The delegates were greatly encouraged by the opportunity for fellowship and training they received.
